Still in fundraising mode, but I had some good press at events in Tupelo and Meridian this week.

I attended the funeral of Panola County Supervisor Robert Avant Wednesday in Batesville. Robert is the father of Lanier Avant, chief of staff for Congressman Bennie Thompson. I had known Robert since 1995 and have worked with his son on many issues. Continued prayers go out to the Avant family.

We, in the Democratic family, are still stunned by the events that led to the death of Bill Gwatney, chair of the Arkansas Democratic Party. Concerns about my safety has been raised, but I am not worried about that right now. Our focus is registering voters, raising money and winning in November.

Our Party Chair, Jamie Franks, has sent in a request to have me speak at the Democratic National Convention. I will keep you posted if that request is granted.

The enthusiasm is building for November. People are wanting change here in Mississippi as the current economic crisis has hurt many households. I feel confident that the pundits in DC will be surprised by the support this campaign, and other so-called longshots, will receive in the fall.
